REMIX / DECONSTRUCTION:

I have always been befuddled by “remixes” Maybe it’s my lack of understanding of the traditions that spawned them but remixes often sound quite flat and seem to fail to expand the scope of the source material. Sometimes, however, I think they can be amazing, and I love the collaborative spirit inherently involved. I also love the process of bringing an outside perspective to a piece of music and finding my own center of gravity within it. I tend to error toward a heavy handed approach with these things, because, why not? We’re artists, not brain surgeons! (thank god) Links Below.

<bmbz> " (2011)

One of my favorite projects with Akron/Family. A radical deconstruction of our then forthcoming record by each member as well as other artists, coupled with large scale leak campaign. I loved the conceptual aspects of the way it played with anticipation and expectation, and with the notion of an album as a product. At the end of the day though, the sonic / musical qualities of the project are something I am deeply proud of.

Here are a couple of my bombs:

Bola: "MSBHFADE" (With Blue Hawaii)

I was honored to remix a track of the amazing Ghanian Artist Bola for Awesome Tapes from Africa – In the end I wanted to approach it as a collaboration with Blue Hawaii.

Sycamore Age: “Happy” (2013)

I met Sycamore Age while on tour with Seth Olinsky and Kid Millions in Italy. We kept in touch, and they asked me (working as Akron/Family) to remix a song for them.

RA Yoga: Rakti Festival (2012)

Performed live principal based accompaniment to a 300 person yoga class. It was an amazing experience.

AXS Folk Technology (2013)

AXS Folk Technology is a radical lifestyle / mind frame / gear line by Los Angeles Designer Kyle Ng. Kyle commissioned me for music for a 7″ record to be released with their spring 2014 line.
